My Oh My Oh My (An A to Z Post)

Welcome back to the A to Z Challenge on My Pet Blog!

Click on the link for a complete list of participants.

My theme this month is Soundtrack Songs. Throughout April, I will be sharing with you selections from the playlists I create to accompany my novels, the lyrics that landed the song on the list.

Today, I have three songs to share with you. I tried to keep it to two songs, but I didn't want to exclude any of today's selections, so there will be three, one from three of the four volumes of my fantasy series...

Song #1—My Skin by Natalie Merchant

This is an Effigy song. If the main character of that novel—Haleine Coileáin—had a theme song, this would be it.

Key Lyrics:

Take a look at my body/ look at my hands/ there's so much here that/ I don't understand/ Your face-saving promises/ whispered like prayers/ I don't need them

Song #2—My Vampire Heart by Tom McRae

Remember yesterday when I was all, "This song relates to a pair of characters I can't tell you about because spoilers"... Well, this is another of their songs.

Key Lyrics:

Darling, I'm lost/ adrift in the dark/ clutching your words/ to my vampire heart once more/ So let in the light/ turn me to dust/ If it don't end in bloodshed, dear/ it's probably not love

Song #3—My Body Is A Cage by Peter Gabriel

This is the first song to make it onto the playlist for Threnody—Book #4 in my fantasy series. There's no specific scene for it yet, but it's representative of a certain character's mindset when the story begins.

Key Lyrics:

My body is a cage/ that keeps me from dancing/ with the one I love/ but my mind holds the key

Back to two songs tomorrow, I promise! Thanks for stopping by!!

  1. Not sure I'd want a vampire heart. I like garlic.

    1. I think he meant a metaphorical vampire heart, so garlic would still be okay. ;)

      Thanks for the laugh!

  2. I always thought I was a vampire because I didn't like garlic.

  3. Although I don't usually write with music, I think this is an awesome way to tackle the A to Z challenge - revealing bits of character and intriguing us with music!

    1. Yeah...it's like that most days. Not Q Day, though. That won't be dark or edgy in the least.

  6. You know, I listened to 10,000 Maniacs a ton through the 90s but have not kept up with Natalie Merchant. I liked this--reminded me a bit of Cowboy Junkies.

  10. Ooooh, haunting songs. They each have a bit of that eerie quality about them.

  11. I'm always a little envious of people who have playlists for their wips. I can't write to music; I get too distracted by it *sigh*

  14. It's your blog, you can feature as many songs as you like. I can kind of see how song #1 relates to Effigy.

  15. Was just about to listen to these songs when Hubby came and sat down in the same room to watch TV. I'll probably come back and listen to all the days I haven't got round to yet. Just wanted to drop by and say hi :-)
