Writing Wisdom (An IWSG Post)

Hello, all!

It's the first Wednesday of the month (at least I think it is), which means that it's time for the Insecure Writer's Support Group. (At least I think it is...)

I don't know if you know this, because I've only mentioned it a few million times, but these days I'm dividing my time between the Revision Caves and a Girl-Scout-Cookie-Induced Coma (I don't know why I felt the need to capitalize those things. It just happened.) which means these days everyone with whom I come into contact is fortunate if I've happen to change out of my pajamas.

Kidding. I don't come into contact with anyone these days. There are no people allowed in the Revision Caves.

Anyway, the point of this introduction is not my pajamas or lack of human interaction, but just to tell you today's post will lack my customary brilliant wordsmith-ing-stuff-type-thing. (Ha. See what I did there? Sorry—There is also no sleeping in the Revision Caves.) Instead I have decided to share with you some funny and perhaps inspirational picture-type-things. That, you know, have to do with writing and editing.

Did I mention there's no sleeping in the Revision Caves?

I should probably stop typing now. On with the pictures!

And finally, a little inspiration for you:

Happy Writing and Editing and Revising and Publishing and Promoting and Whatever Else you might be doing!

Thanks for stopping by. See you next time!

  1. Took an hour to write - be great if it did take an hour to read.
Just be sure you allow food in the revision cave.

    1. There will be food until the cookies run out. Which will probably be this afternoon. Perhaps I should look into scheduling a food run...

  2. Hah! Thank you for making me laugh. I needed that. Good-luck with the revisions. Enjoy those cookies:)

    1. Always happy to help...and I always enjoy cookies. As long as they don't have any oatmeal or raisins in them.

  3. Good luck! My revision cave currently has a cat and he refuses to lay anywhere but on my lap. What does that mean for revisions? Yeah, I don't know either!

    1. Fat Cat has only laid on the manuscript itself thus far, but my cave is typically accompanied by snoring and farting dogs. We love our pets!

  4. LOL those were great! Good luck in the revision cave! It's a scary place but I should probably head in there one of these days...

  5. Okay, you already made me laugh before I even got to the funnies, but loved the funnies, too.

  7. Thanks for the laughs!

And the whole Girl Scout Cookie Induced Coma is precisely why I donated what I bought from my niece. I don't trust myself around cookies.

  8. I"m about to enter the editing cave and I don't have any girl scout cookies. Not fair. All the little girls in our neighborhood have grown up.

    1. I don't know any girl scouts in my new town, but fortunately, there was a troop selling cookies outside of Large Mart over the weekend. I kind of hope they're there next weekend, too.

  10. Haha, I love your words, MJ and in this case, the pictures are very motivational, too!

"Break a #2 pencil" in the Revision Caves :)

  11. I'm in the editing cave, too, but my husband might have something to say if I never changed out of my PJ's.

    1. If my significant other has any opinions on any part of my editing process, he has wisely decided to keep them to himself. :)

  12. Thanks for sharing some funny pictures! Commas do in fact save lives.

Good luck surviving in the Revision Caves. I've heard many a tale of people going mad in there.

    1. True, true. Fortunately, I was pretty mad to begin with. Mad, as in crazy, not mad, as in angry. Although I am, often times, that, too.

  13. I always love those comma ones. So funny! Thanks for sharing and good luck on your revisions!

    1. Yeah, there's the one with "I love cooking my family and my pets" with the tag line "don't be a psycho, use commas" or something along those lines. I laugh every time.

    1. I deleted, like, 3000 words yesterday. The stabbing on is so spot on.

  15. Love that from the War of Art. And of course I also hope it's true. ;)
Good luck revising and enjoy those cookies!

    Best wishes on revision!

  17. Ha. Two of those images I'll be posting over at a site I contribute to. We think alike, MJ!

  18. Love those little ditties. It reminds us writers that we have a lot of common. Non-writers probably wouldn't get it. Thanks for sharing!

  19. Commas! Yes, they do save lives. :) At least you've made good progress. You deserve to get more cookies.

  20. Some great quotes there, thanks for sharing! Good luck in the Revision Caves :)

  21. Mmm, cookies. Isn't this the best time of year? I'd say have fun in the Revision Caves, but it's never really fun. So do good work. And eat lots of cookies.

  22. Hope you'll be able to come out of the revision cave soon so you can celebrate your accomplishments.

  23. How the hell did you get GS cookies already?? I'm so jealous!

    Write. Revise. Repeat!

    You can do it!

  24. Love the obsessive compulsive cartoon. I feel like that frequently.

Good luck in the revision caves. Hope you get released soon.

  25. Great post, I needed a good laugh today :) I like that quote from The War of Art, because I've asked that question before. Good luck in the Revision Caves!

  26. I like the "took an hour to write . ." thingy. My sentiments exactly, lol.

  27. These are great! The Futurama one, and the one about commas, really had me cracking up. The Tina Fey quote is awesome, too, and something I need to keep in mind more, since it's pretty easy for me to get depressed about my art.

And LOL, I'm far too familiar with the Revision Cave. Who needs sleep, anyway? ;)

  28. I had a Luna protein bar for breakfast (chocolate and peppermint) and my husband said it tasted like a thin mint. I said "HECK YEAH--thin mints for breakfast!" To be honest, if I had any easy way to buy GS cookies, I'd have a big stack of them in my kitchen right now and I'd be eating them every day. Fortunately, no kids around...and I pick up my groceries at the place where they put them in your trunk for you after ordering them online, so I won't even run into the girls in front of the grocery store this year!

  30. Ooh I hope all is well in the revision caves!

I love the last two graphics. They seem to contradict, but to me, the last one reads like an answer to the one before it. :-)
