The Good, The Bad, and The Funny

A recap of my week:

The Good

I am somehow cruising through Camp NaNoWriMo. After two weeks of barely keeping pace, I am now days ahead. Days. As in more than one. Four days, to be exact. Now, of course, that I've announced it to the world I've completely jinxed myself and will spend the next 15 days without a single story-related thought in my head.

But they're there at the moment, and I hope they stick around for the rest of the month. Seriously, I have no idea how this is happening. I have no idea where my 30,000+ words thus far have gone in this manuscript. I'm also starting to suspect that 50,000 words will not be enough to finish this story, but that's a different post for a different day. Let me say this, though:  Second Nature is now over 730 pages long (11 pt font, 1.5 spacing, or roughly 282,000 words, if you were curious).

I never thought I'd look at Effigy and think 'short.' Never. Not once.

Speaking of Effigy, it's been almost a year since that novel was released into the wild. Its official book birthday is next week (Monday or Wednesday, to be as exact as I can in this case.). I'll be putting the e-book edition on sale then, provided I don't forget and I can figure out how. I'm also contemplating doing some Effigy-themed posts during this time. So, if there's an Effigy-themed topic in which you may be interested in reading, please feel free to mention it in the comments.

The Bad

I still live in Florida. I'm still unemployed. I keep checking the want ads every day, but still, no one is hiring a sarcasm specialist. I'm sure it's only a matter of time...before the college kids go back to school and some store is desperate enough to take on both me and my attitude. Fingers crossed!

The Funny

These videos:

(Please note, the second video contains a not-insignificant amount of profanity. That's probably obvious, as it's right in the name. Anyway, it's NSFW. Or suitable for people who don't find profanity as amusing as I do. (Yes, I am incredibly mature like that.))

That's going to do it for me today. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have a great weekend!

  1. You fantasy writers and your word counts... :P

But seriously, good for you. Those are the moments (days, in your case, apparently) we writers live for. The times when the words just flow. :)

  6. Second Nature sounds like a beast of a novel. You should be proud of yourself. 282 000 words is fantastic! Congratulations with making such great progress with your writing. Don't worry, a job will come along. Don't give up. Have a great weekend.

    1. It is a beast of a novel. I know I'll lose some of it in rewrites, but it'll still be huge when it's done. Definitely doorstop material.

  7. Wow! You are a writing machine! I kind of wish I was unemployed so I could get more writing time… Getting made redundant in November last year was the only way I managed to do NaNo!

    1. Unemployment, I guess, does have its perks. Lack of a paycheck, however, is not one of them. :)

  8. I'm glad your writing is going well. Man, it's going to be a major doorstopper. But I'm okay with that. It's what ebooks are for. And good luck with the job hunt.

  12. And I keep cutting words from my now just over 60,000 word novel. Sigh.

Glad the writing is going well. It's the ebb and flow of the thing. Now it's flowing.

  13. Hi M.J.,

Yeah, I know, where is that Gary? Well, guess what, I'm finally here at almost four in the morning! Yikes!

What the Effigy! Wow, almost a year since your book was released upon an expectant world. You should be very proud.

I wish I had as much patience as you when it comes to counting words. I count up to about one hundred and then I lose track :)

Hopefully, you will make enough money out of writing that you will not have to seek employment. Still, I wish you well with that in the meantime.

    Enjoy your Sunday.

    Gary :)

    1. Fortunately, the computer does the counting for me. Otherwise, I'd never make it through.

And making money from writing would be very nice. I think I'd have to publish some more books first, though. :)

    1. I wouldn't think you'd have time for a perm job, given how many writing projects you've got going on. You're an inspiration to me to work harder.

  15. Congrats on doing so well with NaNo! And good luck with finding a job. I want to have Jon Snow over for dinner and a little bit of "dessert." I bet he doesn't know nothing. ;)

  16. Wow that's an awesome word count! I hope you are still cruising along. And I have to second Christine's comment about Jon Snow, my baby!! LOL I saw that video a few months ago but it still makes me laugh, love it.

  17. That's my kind of guided meditation :) I think I'm kinda Jon Snow at dinner parties too. The goblet is always half empty, lol.

Enjoy being ahead while it lasts. Remember, there is always a balance . . wait being ahead IS balance for being behind.

  18. 282K sounds like pretty good progress. You've got a lot of words down. :) I hope the job situation works out for you.

  19. I would totally hire you as a sarcasm specialist if I wasn't...uh...unemployed as well. I'm too poor to afford that sort of thing right now, LOL.

And wow, Effigy is one year old already? How exciting! Hard to believe so much time has passed...
