Magic Monday

It's Labor Day! And while I am spending this holiday laboring, I'm thrilled this day has come. Because do you know what happens on Labor Day?

The majority of the tourists go home. At least for two weeks. Then they all come back to watch the leaves change color, but those two weeks are spectacular.

Now I know I reside in an area with a tourism-based economy, and without tourists, I would be unemployed, but I've found them to be particularly exhausting this summer and I'm looking forward to some downtime.

Because I am super far behind in...well, life and I need to at least attempt to catch up.

Which means I am going back to setting both weekly and monthly goals for myself, and (at the risk of being incredibly boring) I'm going to post them and my progress (provided there is any) on this blog because I think I was doing better when I did that. Putting goals where other people can see them helps. Accountability and all that. I hate having to admit that I didn't accomplish what I set out to do.

That said, here are my goals for September:

1. Walk/run at least two miles a day.

2. Take donation pile(s) to Good Will.

3. Complete first draft of part two of Second Nature.

4. Complete workable draft of Effigy's blurb.

And now for my goals for this week (to be completed by Sunday evening):

1. Blog three times.

2. Complete chapters 19-20 of Second Nature.

3. Read a book. (Code Name: Verity by Elizabeth Wein)

So that's going to do it for me today. Thank you for stopping by. Have a great Monday.

  1. I''m doing # 1, not once a day.

    Just did # 2 - Saturday.

    Still working on a draft.

    1. It feels like those drafts are never done. Or maybe that's just me.

  2. I hear you about the tourists. :)

Those sound like good goals. I wrote up mine for September - the biggest one is to get my story collection back on track (I slacked off a bit in August.) Good luck with all of yours!

  3. You can do it!
Yes, vacations are over and kids back in school. Hope that gives you a couple weeks to breathe.

  4. I live in a town kind of like yours, though mine is run by a university, it is the reason we are here and we depend on it. I have a job because of it. But sometimes all of those out of towners get annoying and you want to set up a blockade and catipult rocks at them so they can't get into town. So if you ever need help in this area I will bring my catipult down.

Enjoy your rest! I hope you get all of your goals accomplished.

    1. I'm very tempted to take you up on this offer...not necessarily because they're annoying, but because I really want to play with a catapult.

  5. It DOES help to write the goals down. And good luck getting rid of those pesky tourists. Though, really, I'd love to come out and see the fall colors. I wouldn't be in your way, promise. :D

    1. Well, as long as you're not in my way, I guess that would be all right. =)

    1. I haven't been doing very well with my goals so far this year. But maybe I can finish strong. Stronger.

And other people's goals help inspire me, too.

  8. I hear ya about the tourists. I used to work down the street from Disneyland...

Happy fall. Good luck with your blurb.

    1. I can't even imagine working anywhere near Disneyland. It must be nonstop tourists there. At least mine are seasonal.

    2. Nope, the tourists aren't as prevalent during non-peak times--like early spring or fall. Christmas things picked up a bit (more so for us, but for Disneyland as well).

Funny thing is the store I worked at is no longer there. That whole area is completely different now.

  10. What a great idea! I have noticed that writing my goals down gets better results. Probably because I can't ignore the printed version.

I love your goals, especially #2, since I can already check that off my list :-)

    1. Yep, put it in print and it's much harder to ignore. Sadly. I might have to have a horrible white-out accident next month.

  11. Excellent list of goals. I need to add some more exercise in mine. Maybe. Yeah, okay. I really should stop saying maybe about it!

    1. I have the same problem with my exercise goals. The only goals I ever really excel in are the ones which involve the consumption of baked goods.

I hear you about the tourists. They should be leaving soon where I live too.

I agree about accountability. Good luck!

  14. Having the goals out there helps me stay on track, too. It's the shame of having to admit that I've failed that keeps me going ;). Good luck with your goals!

  15. Sorry you had to work today, but I'm glad you're going to get a bit of a 'break' in the coming weeks. Good luck with your goals this week!

  16. I know what you mean with the tourists. I live in FLA and we have tourists here year round. Plus I work in tourism too, so I've always got my fill. Sometimes I want to move to a small town and get away from all of it. Someday ....
Hope you had a decent Labor Day even tho you labored... :)

  17. Hurray for freedom from the tourists, no matter how brief! Looks like you have a lot of goals ahead of you. Good luck accomplishing them all!
