Addlepated Animaniacs

It's April 1st so you know what that means. It means the internet will be filled with more than lies than usual. It also means that more than 1600 people are now embarking on the wondrous adventure known as the A to Z Challenge (if you're not already signed up, there's still time to commit! Just click on the link...). I've just barely been online this morning and I've already seen a lot of great topics. It makes my theme ('Totally Winging It' 'My Favorite Things') seem rather silly...

Anyway, here are some of my favorite A things:

Animaniacs

This cartoon which ran in the mid nineties was one of my favorites even though I was old enough to not be into cartoons anymore. By the way, I'm never going to be that old (Phineas And Ferb is my current favorite cartoon). Yakko, Wakko and Dot, Pinky and the Brain (Are you thinking what I'm thinking, Pinky?)— anyone remember that one episode they did in French with a Les Miserables tribute? Classic! And then there were the Good Idea/ Bad Idea segments. And Mime Time. And the Wheel of Morality bits at the end. Oh boy, I loved this show. I suddenly feel the need to watch it all over again. Here's a clip of one of the show's awesome songs (and yes, I do own the show's soundtrack):

Since we're on a music kick now and I don't want my posts to get too long, let me talk about one last thing...

Addlepated

Addlepated is my friend Mike's music project. Last year he released an album he wrote, performed, recorded, mixed, produced and whatever else one does to an album before its released as part of the RPM challenge (NaNoWriMo for musicians). This past February, he did it again. The final product, Leader of Men, was released on March 27th. It's available for download (for free, or name your price) on the Bandcamp site. If you have some free time at some point, please go check it out. And if you've never been to Bandcamp, you should definitely give it a look. It does a lot of great things for indie musicians and we all know how important it is to support the indie sides of the industry.

That's going to do it for me today...See y'all tomorrow and thanks for stopping by.

  1. How did you know I adored Animanics? You're a good friend for helping your friend spread the word. I'll check the band out. And Gator Girl is a super name. I've heard of these dogs. They're supposed to be super security and super loyal. Thanks for stopping by.

  5. "We're An-i-man-i-acs. Dot is cute and Yakko yaks. Wakko packs away the snacks, While Bill Clinton plays the sax. We're An-i-man-i-acs."

I loved this show as a kid!

  7. I just introduced this show to my kids as an excuse to watch it all over again, and there are a lot of jokes that went over my head when I was younger. I'll have to give the band website a look. It sounds awesome!

  11. Aww, Animaniacs! I grew up watching this! Though I feel like there were a lot of adult references on the show that I didn't understand as a child. Now I wanna go watch it :)

How about this, I'll go watch an episode of Animaniacs, you go watch an episode of Doctor Who, and we'll meet back here in, say, 24 hours??

  26. I love the Animaniacs!!! Best cartoon ever. They spawned Pinky and the Brain, which is the best cartoon within a cartoon!! =D

  27. Animaniacs was the most excellent cartoon ever. EVER. We own the complete series of Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain on DVD. I don't even know how to name my favorite bits, except... well, Brain trying to take over the world through country music has always stood out.

  30. Sorry, M.J. I'm still stuck on Popeye and Bullwinkle. But I'll sit up and notice if I ever come across the Animaniacs. Yes, I have a few gray hairs, my crown of wisdom, right? But I'll never be old either. :)

    Good luck with your writing!

  32. True story...

Me (opening class): Today's assignment...blah, blah, blah...

    Class: random complaints

Me: What do you guys normally do? (as the assignment seemed like a typical day to me)

Student: Same thing we do every night...try to take over the world...

    Me: Okay, great, Brain.

I impressed that boy so much just by knowing that one little reference.

  36. I was in my 20's through most of the decade of the nineties, and I watched tons of cartoons then. I never liked Animianics as much as Pinky and the Brain, but still watched it.

The voice of Pinky... or Brain, I forget now, has a podcast. Both voice actors were on the Nerdest recently and did a bit in character... sooo funny hearing them dropping all those F-bombs still has me cracking up.

  37. Did Disney make a song similar to that one or something? I know I've never heard those lyrics before, but the tune is awfully familiar . . .

    Thanks for sharing it!

  42. "Addle-Pated" is a funny phrase... trying (in vain) to remember where I heard that phrase the first time... a comic of some kind, perhaps? Bloom County? Calvin & Hobbes? Dilbert? Bah, I used to know...

Anyway, nice to make your acquaintance... I'll be dropping by to check your letters this month! Hope you don't mind!

  49. LOVE Animaniacs.

My favorite episode was the one where different characters ended up in each other's sketches. Like when Slappy the Squirrel traded places with Dot. Hilarious!
